O.k. so the week is slowly dragging and as of today, we are officially over the half way mark. So why am I so tired? I know why? Because I need a week long vacation…… maybe even two! I just booked me a mini vaca at the beginning of November and hopefully off to Disney World at the end of November. Any plans for anyone else?
The 2011 Billboard Music Awards held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, gave is some pretty awesome moments on air, even though the white carpet fashion was lacking. The Billboard stage saw the likes of U2, Neil Diamond, Mary J. Blige and cutie Justin Bieber (in a very Vegas-esque golden tux) come on. Bono and gang were on hand to receive the Touring award while Neil accepted the Billboard Icon award (he also sang Sweet Caroline and America before receiving the trophy). The Biebs won the Billboard.com Fan Favorite Award and the Top New Artist Award but how about that kiss with Selena Gomez, huh?
Ri-Ri took home the Radio Artist of the Year and Female Artist of the Year while Taylor Swift (in a trademark sparkly gown) accepted the Billboard 200 Artist of the Year and Country Artist of the Year. Beyonce was feted with a video montage that featured Barbra Streisand, Bono, Stevie Wonder and Michelle Obama while receiving the Billboard Millennium Award. Look here for a full list of Billboard award winners.
This weekend marks one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. As people hit the road with high gas prices, please try and consider your safety by designating a driver if you decide to drink, do the speed limit, and eat till your stomach pops.
If you aren’t going anywhere, just enjoying a quiet weekend at home with your family is o.k. too!!
Beyonce’s back! Here is her performance from last night’s awards show where she received the Millenium Award and thanked the original members of Destiny’s Child (Latoya and Latavia), Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and her hubby JayZ!! I just love when she said “I love me some JayZ”. The world does too Bey!!
So I’m sure most of you have heard by now, a huge controversial topic has hit the news again about one of hip hop’s greatest. Who? Rapper Common. He was invited to the White House for a poetry reading by the staff and President. The event is titled “Celebration of American Poetry,” and it’s part of a White House series of cultural evenings loosely structured around music. The series has already included performances devoted to country, classical, and Motown.
Why the big deal? Well, Common commented in one of his rhymes in the past about Bush going in to find weapons of mass destruction when they weren’t any. As a result, he was labeled a “thug” by Bush supporters. Do you think it was disrespectful or wrong for them to invite him to the White House? Do you consider him a thug? As Frank Ski commented on v103 this morning, are people who can’t use the “N” word replacing that with the word “THUG” because they can get away with it. What makes a person a thug???
Here is the line Common referenced Bush in. “Burn a Bush cos’ for peace he no push no button/Killing over oil and grease/no weapons of destruction” goes the Common work in question.
Common is known for putting out fairly uplifting things and he’s pretty mainstream. What are your thoughts?
This has been a long week for me!! We have had baseball game after game after game and I am tired. My house looks a mess, the kids need a home cooked meal and my feet hurt. Have you ever had one of those weeks where it seems like everything is behind??
Well, tonight, I am going to let loose at Frontera and have me a party with all of my hispanic friends. Well, I don’t really have any friends, but I’m going to go party with some strangers anyway. Do you have plans tonight?
We finally got him!! Who you may ask? Osama Bin Laden that’s who. He is officially gone. Deceased. Dead. And who do we pay tribute to? The President of the United States! None other than Barack Hussein Obama, a natural born American citizen and of course our troups for doing a wonderful job.
May the souls of all that were lost September 11, 2001 rest in peace and this moment brings comfort to the families that lost their loved ones!!
So what’s in the news? William and Cat’s wedding at Westminster Abbey, the horrific tornadoes and storms that caused an associate of mine to have to run from her house 2:00 this morning because lightening hit it, or the lady in IHOP getting stomped by the po po???
